Request an Offer for Your Dallas Vehicle
If you have a car in Dallas that no longer runs, needs major repairs, or is sitting unused, you can request an offer without first arranging a test drive. Start with the year, make, model, and ZIP code where the vehicle is parked. Be ready to provide mileage, damage, missing parts, and title information when the request is reviewed.
Submitting the form is not an agreement to sell. You can review the proposed amount and transaction requirements before deciding what to do next.
What Affects Your Junk Car Offer?
The age of a vehicle is only one part of its evaluation. Relevant details include:
- Year, make, model, and mileage: These help identify the vehicle and the potential demand for it or its components.
- Mechanical and body condition: Engine or transmission failure, collision damage, corrosion, and flood exposure can affect the assessment.
- Completeness: Missing wheels, a catalytic converter, or other major components should be disclosed.
- Location and accessibility: A car that cannot roll or is trapped in a parking garage may require a different collection plan.
- Ownership status: A missing title, active lien, or salvage designation can change the available transfer procedure.
No fixed Dallas purchase price follows from these factors alone. For a more detailed explanation, see how vehicle scrap value is assessed.
Which Vehicles Can You Submit for Review?
You can request an evaluation for an unwanted car with a failed engine, a broken transmission, collision damage, or a condition that makes driving impractical. Hail-damaged, flood-damaged, high-mileage, and partly dismantled vehicles may also be worth describing to a buyer.
Explain the actual problem, including whether the vehicle starts, rolls, steers, and brakes. A car with hail damage presents different questions from one missing its engine or wheels. See the damaged-car selling options and the more specific hail-damaged car guidance where relevant.
Submitting a request does not guarantee an offer, a particular amount, or acceptance of every condition or title status.
How the Quote and Sale Process Works
- Send the basic details. Use the page form to provide the car's year, make, model, Dallas-area ZIP code, and contact information.
- Clarify the condition. During follow-up, describe mileage, damage, missing components, title status, and whether the car can be loaded safely.
- Review the terms. Check the proposed amount, any conditions attached to it, the purchasing entity, towing charges, payment arrangements, and pickup availability.
- Complete the agreed transaction. Use the applicable Texas ownership documents, retain your sale records, and arrange collection only after the details are clear.
If the car's condition or location changes between the request and collection, disclose that change before the transaction is completed.
Texas Title and Ownership Requirements
Texas title requirements apply even when the vehicle is broken down. The correct procedure depends on the title record, any lien, the vehicle's legal status, and who is purchasing it.
Selling With a Texas Title
For a standard vehicle sale, TxDMV instructs the seller to provide a properly signed title with the sale date and any required odometer reading, plus signed Form 130-U showing the sale price. Dealer and recycler transactions may follow different procedures, so confirm who is purchasing the vehicle before signing. See the TxDMV selling instructions. For local title-transfer assistance, the TxDMV Dallas County Tax Office listing identifies title services at 500 Elm Street, Suite 1200, Dallas, TX 75202. This is a government office, not a ByeCar location.
If You Lost the Title
If a Texas title was lost or destroyed, the recorded owner can generally request a Certified Copy of Title using Form VTR-34. All recorded owners must sign and provide identification. If a lien remains on record, TxDMV says the lienholder should apply or provide an original lien release. A 30-day waiting period can apply after the last title was issued. Follow the official Certified Copy of Title instructions. A bonded title is not the usual replacement for a seller's lost title.
Liens and Electronic Title Records
If a lender has an active or recorded lien, resolve the required release before a standard transfer. Texas may hold the title electronically while a lien is recorded. After the lender releases an electronic lien, TxDMV says the record is converted to a paper title and mailed to the recorded owner or designated third party. Confirm the required documents with the lienholder and actual purchaser. See TxDMV lien and electronic-title procedures.
Why a Bonded Title May Not Apply
Texas's bonded-title procedure is intended for certain ownership-evidence problems, not as a general shortcut for junk cars. TxDMV says the vehicle must meet its eligibility rules, including being complete, and cannot be considered junked or nonrepairable. See the official bonded-title requirements.
The Limited 2026 Recycler Exception
Effective January 1, 2026, Texas provides a narrow no-title procedure for a licensed Used Auto Parts Recycler purchasing a vehicle solely for parts, dismantling, or scrap. The vehicle must be at least 13 years old and unregistered for at least seven years. The recycler must satisfy lien and identity safeguards, submit Form VTR-341-2 within the required timeframe, and follow applicable dismantling restrictions. This is not a general no-title selling option, and ByeCar's or a purchasing partner's eligibility has not been established. Confirm the legal purchaser and its requirements. See TxDMV's recycler guidance.
Salvage and Nonrepairable Vehicles
A salvage designation and a nonrepairable designation are different. Texas explains that returning a salvage vehicle to road use involves rebuilding and inspection; a nonrepairable designation carries different title and disposal restrictions. Disclose the existing brand before accepting an offer and confirm the applicable procedure. See TxDMV salvage-vehicle guidance.
What to Do After Selling a Vehicle in Texas
Submit a Texas Vehicle Transfer Notification within 30 days of selling the car. TxDMV says timely filing updates the record and protects sellers against certain later parking-ticket and toll liabilities. This matters even when the purchaser is a licensed dealer, because the title may remain in the previous owner's name while the dealer holds the vehicle. Do not assume the buyer files the notification for you. See TxDMV's vehicle-selling instructions and notification link.
Keep the purchaser's name and contact information, sale date, VIN, and copies of the transaction documents. Texas sellers may remove license plates and the registration sticker. Plates can be kept for an eligible transfer; otherwise, TxDMV instructs sellers to deface plates before disposing of them. The old registration sticker does not transfer to another vehicle.
Preparing a Non-Running Car for Collection
A pickup plan depends on the car's condition and where it is parked. Tell the buyer about:
- Movement: Flat or missing tires, locked wheels, steering or brake problems, and whether the car can roll.
- Access: Gates, underground garage clearance, narrow driveways, blocked spaces, or a vehicle inside a repair shop.
- Permissions and charges: Storage-yard releases, property access permissions, or outstanding storage fees that could delay collection.
- Safety and belongings: Fluid leaks, loose parts, keys, and personal items that should be removed before handoff.
Do not attempt unsafe repairs or move an unstable vehicle solely to prepare for collection. Confirm the loading arrangements with the buyer first.
Dallas Pickup Locations and Availability
Enter the ZIP code of the vehicle's actual parking location, even if your mailing address is elsewhere. Pickup access at a Dallas residence can differ from access at a gated apartment complex, a commercial lot, or a repair facility.
If the car is in Irving, Mesquite, Garland, Fort Worth, or another nearby community, request confirmation for that address rather than assuming identical coverage or scheduling. Availability and collection charges must be agreed for the specific transaction.
Confirm Your Offer, Towing, and Payment Terms
Before agreeing to sell, confirm whether the amount is final or subject to a condition check. Ask whether towing is included, whether difficult access could affect the arrangement, and who will collect the vehicle.
ByeCar's published footer says the word "cash" is used in marketing and that payments are typically made by check or wire transfer. That does not establish the method or settlement date for your particular sale. Confirm how and when payment will be issued, and when funds are expected to become available. Do not assume immediate cash payment or a guaranteed pickup date.
Three Checks Before You Accept
- Vehicle: Are the VIN, described condition, title status, and location accurate?
- Collection: Are the pickup address, loading requirements, scheduling, and any charges clear?
- Transfer and payment: Is the purchaser identified, the title procedure agreed, and the payment method and timing documented?

Questions About Selling a Junk Car in Dallas
What information do I need to request an offer?
Start with the vehicle's year, make, model, and actual ZIP code. Be ready to provide mileage, VIN, condition, title status, and loading details during follow-up, even if those are not fields in the initial form.
What if I lost my Texas vehicle title?
A recorded owner can generally apply for a Certified Copy of Title using TxDMV Form VTR-34. All recorded owners must sign, and a recorded lien may require action by the lienholder or an original release. A bonded title is not an automatic substitute.
Can a junk car ever be sold without a title in Texas?
Only certain transactions qualify. A licensed Used Auto Parts Recycler may purchase a vehicle solely for parts or scrap without a title if it is at least 13 years old, has been unregistered for at least seven years, and all other safeguards are met. Do not assume ByeCar or its purchasing partner qualifies.
Do I need to file a Vehicle Transfer Notification?
TxDMV advises filing within 30 days of the sale. Keep the purchaser's information and the VIN so you can complete the notification and maintain records of the transfer.
Can I request an offer if the car cannot start or roll?
Yes, you can request an evaluation. State whether the wheels turn and the car can steer or brake. The buyer must still confirm eligibility and whether collection can be arranged safely.
Are towing and pickup included in the offer?
Do not assume so. Confirm collection availability, towing charges, loading conditions, and the schedule for the vehicle's actual address before accepting.
How and when will I be paid?
ByeCar's public disclosure says check or wire transfer is typical. Confirm the amount, method, timing of payment issuance, and expected fund availability for your transaction before transferring the vehicle.
