An Oregon car does not need to be repaired before you request an offer simply because it no longer starts or drives reliably. Begin with the year, make, model, ZIP code, known symptoms, title status, and whether a vehicle loan is still unpaid.

What Affects the Value of a Broken Car in Oregon?

Compare an as-is offer with what you would spend to diagnose and repair the vehicle and what it may be worth afterward. Mileage, overall condition, completeness, running ability, known mechanical problems, title status, and an outstanding loan can all matter.

Broken, Non-Running, and Mechanically Damaged Vehicles

A broken vehicle may be completely non-running or may still move with a serious engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, or overheating problem. Describe the symptoms you know instead of trying to diagnose the failure yourself.

Before requesting an offer, note whether the vehicle starts, rolls, and steers, whether the keys and major components are present, and whether a mechanic has identified the problem. Mention any access issue that could matter if pickup is arranged.

What Paperwork Do I Need to Sell a Broken Car in Oregon?

Oregon DMV tells sellers to sign and date either the back of the title or a bill of sale. If the title still shows a lien, make sure the lienholder has signed the title or provided the appropriate signed release. Oregon DMV also says the vehicle cannot be sold while the underlying loan remains unpaid.

For a vehicle that is model year 2011 or newer and under 20 years old, buyer and seller must complete the odometer disclosure. If the title is lost for a vehicle still subject to that requirement, the owner must get a replacement title before selling it.

The seller must notify Oregon DMV of the sale within 10 days and provide the buyer's name and address. DMV records the notice, but the seller remains listed as owner until the buyer transfers the title. For a standard duplicate title with no ownership change, Oregon uses Form 735-515. Review the state's replacement-title guidance when the original title is unavailable.

Preparing a Broken Car for Pickup

If you accept an offer and pickup is arranged, confirm access, ownership paperwork, payment, and timing before releasing the vehicle. Mention if the car cannot roll or steer, has no keys, or is held by a repair shop or storage facility with release requirements or charges.

Oregon Service Areas

ByeCar currently has Oregon location pages for Beaverton, Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Gresham, Hillsboro, Medford, Portland, Salem, and Springfield.

Check the ownership record: Know whether you hold the title and whether a lien or unpaid loan still affects the vehicle.

Prepare the transfer details: If odometer disclosure applies, both buyer and seller must complete it when ownership transfers.

Plan the handoff: If pickup is arranged, disclose whether the car rolls, steers, has keys, or is being held by a repair or storage facility.

If the vehicle is legally classified as junk or non-repairable rather than mechanically broken, Oregon's title rules are different. Oregon generally cannot issue a title for a vehicle another state has classified as junk, non-repairable, parts-only, scrap, or a similar status unless the issuing state can remove that classification. See Oregon DMV's title-brand guidance and ByeCar's Oregon junk-car page when those distinctions apply.
